My husband and I have the goal of buying a house in June 2019. We are currently in a rental house and the colors on the wall are not how we envision the walls of our house to look. One of the things I look forward to most is having a place of our own to truly turn into our dream rustic home. Many of the projects we are working on now don’t go with our current rentals paint scheme but will look great in our forever home. These side tables are one of those projects. Oh how I had a blast working on these! I also absolutely love the color peach/coral, it was one of the colors in our wedding and when my husband said OK to having peach side tables I ran with it.
We got a set of side tables from my mother-in-law which she had plans to trash. They were solid wood and in terrible condition and to be honest I didn’t have a great vision for them when they were first brought home. They sat in our storage for almost a year. One day Cam and I were talking about how we envision our master bedroom in the new house. We want to incorporate our wedding colors (navy and peach). The reason this came up was because we decided it was time to take the leap and get a bigger mattress. Tufts and Needle mattress in a box it was. This meant we needed new bedding and King bedding is definitely not cheap. So obviously we don’t want to have to buy more when we get out of the rental. Our plan is to have a navy accent wall and Cam will build us a headboard. So this is how the peach side table idea came about.
First these tables need a good sanding. The tops of the tables were really scratched.
After it was sanded with 80 grit paper I needed a good primer coat on them. My hope was to have the table be peach and when distressed down the white color and some natural wood would show up underneath. I used a Valspar white latex paint primer. Two coats were applied.
Next up was two coats of Coral Odyssey Valspar Furniture paint and then we distressed it down using 220 grit paper. Last up was picking out the hardware. I got these knobs from Lowes and I absolutely love how it came out.
Perfect for our bedroom!
